FAQs

Do Indian citizens need a visa to visit Bhutan?
No! Indian citizens do not need a visa to visit Bhutan — that’s one of the big perks of travelling as an Indian. However, you do need a Bhutan Entry Permit, which is a separate document processed through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator (like us). The permit is mandatory and required at all checkpoints inside Bhutan. We handle all the paperwork — you just need to carry a valid government-issued photo ID. Passport or Voter ID are accepted. Please note that Aadhaar card alone is NOT accepted at the Bhutan border. For children, carry the original birth certificate or school ID card.
Phuntsholing — the Indian border town and gateway to Bhutan — is about 170 km from Siliguri and takes roughly 4 to 4.5 hours by road. It’s a well-connected, comfortable drive through the North Bengal foothills. We provide a private AC SUV from NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport directly to Phuntsholing, so you don’t need to worry about figuring out routes or shared taxis. If you’re travelling from Kolkata, Delhi, or any other city, just book a train or flight to NJP or Bagdogra — that’s the most convenient entry point for this package.
The Tiger’s Nest hike is moderate — it takes about 2 to 3 hours to climb up, depending on your fitness level and how often you stop (and trust us, you will stop often to stare at the view). The trail is well-maintained with clear paths and handrails at steeper sections. For senior family members or those with knee issues, horses are available for the first half of the trail (up to the mid-point cafeteria) at an additional cost. Beyond that point, the path is mostly steps. Kids aged 8 and above generally manage the hike well if they’re reasonably active. The key is to start early in the morning before the sun gets strong, carry water, and go at your own pace. The monastery at the top is completely worth every step.
Great news — Indian Rupees are widely accepted across Bhutan and the Bhutanese Ngultrum (BTN) has a 1:1 exchange rate with the Indian Rupee, so there’s no complicated currency conversion to worry about. You can use Indian Rupees at most hotels, restaurants, and shops throughout the trip. However, note that Indian ₹500, ₹1000, and ₹2000 notes are NOT accepted in Bhutan. Carry smaller denominations (₹100, ₹200, ₹50) or exchange at the border. Cards are accepted at some larger hotels but it’s best to carry cash for daily expenses. ATMs are available in Thimphu and Paro.
Bhutan is beautiful year-round but has two peak seasons that most travellers (and we) love the most. Spring (March to May) is spectacular — rhododendrons are in full bloom across the hillsides, the weather is warm and comfortable, and the Paro Tshechu festival (usually in March–April) is one of the most colourful cultural events in all of South Asia — definitely worth timing your trip around it if you can. Autumn (September to November) is equally stunning — crystal-clear skies, the best mountain views of the year (Himalayan peaks are visible from Dochula and beyond), and the Thimphu Tshechu festival in September. Monsoon (June to August) brings heavy rain and some landslide risk, but also lush greenery and lower prices. Winter (December to February) is cold but magical — snow on the higher passes, fewer crowds, and some excellent hotel rates.
Absolutely — we love group bookings! This package is available for groups of any size, from a family of 4 to a large group of 30+. Group pricing offers significant savings compared to individual rates, and we can customise the itinerary based on your group’s interests, pace, and budget. For example, if your group includes senior citizens, we can slow down the pace and include more leisure time. If it’s a corporate group, we can add team activities. For groups of 10 or more, we can arrange a dedicated trip manager who travels with you throughout the journey. Just call us or fill in the enquiry form with your group size, preferred travel dates, and hotel category preference — we’ll send you a custom quote within 24 hours.
